Baby root canals are only necessary if the pulp of a child’s tooth becomes infected. An infected tooth is not only painful but will ultimately cause the tooth to fall out. A baby root canal can preserve the structure of the tooth, and therefore save the space needed for the adult tooth to erupt.

In some cases, a child’s tooth may need to be extracted. This may be necessary if the tooth is too damaged to save, if the tooth has cracked beneath the gum line,  or if a baby tooth is preventing an adult tooth from erupting.
